About the Cooperative
Bringing electricity to our rural farms and homes was the challenge Goodhue County Cooperative Electric assumed in 1936 and continues to meet today. Farmers were beginning to demand electric service. Electricity would give them a much better and more profitable way of life and would take much of the drudgery out of farming and housekeeping.
Today we serve nearly 5000 members across Goodhue and the surrounding counties. We strive to provide SAFE, RELIABLE, and AFFORDABLE electricity to all the members we serve. We continue to look for ways to improve reliability and operational efficiencies to keep costs down. We work with our power supplier, Great River Energy, to keep our wholesale power cost as low as possible as this accounts for 65% of the cost to our members. We work with our statewide organization, MREA, on our safety training, legistative issues, and other industry related topics. We give back to our local communities through Operation Round-Up, scholarships, and token donations to local non-profit organizations. We also work with area econimic developement firms to ensure our local communities continue to grow and thrive now and in the future.
